Marc Bartra Aregall (born January 15, 1991 in Sant Jaume dels Domenys , Tarragona province ) is a Spanish football player on the position of defender who is under contract with Betis Sevilla .

Club career

youth

Bartra was born in the small village of Sant Jaume dels Domenys in the Catalan province of Tarragona and began his active career as a football player in the youth division of Espanyol Barcelona , to which he belonged until 2002 and was used in various youth division. At the age of eleven he finally switched to the youth academy of FC Barcelona , La Masia . There he was used in various youth teams and was the oldest player of this age group in the A-Juniors of the club in the 2009/10 season.

FC Barcelona

Bartra made his debut for the second team of FC Barcelona on August 30, 2009 in the 3-0 away defeat by FC Badalona when he came on for Armando Lozano in the 63rd minute . After a few games for FC Barcelona B, the 19-year-old was brought into the squad of the professional team, in which he was among other things during some games of the Champions League season 2009/10 . Bartra finally made his professional debut on February 14, 2010 in a 2-1 away defeat by Atlético Madrid . In the match he replaced Jeffrén Suárez from the 61st minute of the game . He is the twelfth academy player to make his debut on the professional team under coach Pep Guardiola .

In mid-April 2010 Real Madrid showed interest in signing Bartras, whose contract ended at the end of the 2009/10 season . He decided to stay in Barcelona and signed his first professional contract there on June 11, 2010, which ran until 2012. From the 2012/13 season he was in the first team's squad. There, however, he was usually assigned the role of a supplementary player; in four seasons he made a total of 59 league appearances.

Borussia Dortmund

Season 2016/17

For the 2016/17 season , Bartra moved to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga for eight million euros and received a four-year contract. He made his Bundesliga debut for BVB on August 27, 2016 (1st matchday) in a 2-1 home win against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . On September 14, he made his debut in a 6-0 away win against Legia Warsaw for BVB in the Champions League and scored the goal to make it 3-0.

In the bomb attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus on the evening of April 11, 2017, Bartra was injured on his right arm and hand and taken to hospital after emergency medical care. He broke the spoke in his right wrist and broke foreign objects on his arm. He returned to the BVB Bundesliga squad after a four-week injury break on the penultimate match day of the season in a 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg , where he was not used. On May 20, 2017, he was used for the first time on the last matchday at the home game against Werder Bremen . In the 4-3 victory, which secured Borussia Dortmund third place in the final table and direct qualification for the 2017/18 Champions League season , he was in the starting line-up due to an injury to Marcel Schmelzer and completed the entire season. In total, he came to 19 league appearances in the season.

On May 27, 2017, he won his first BVB title with the DFB Cup . In the 2-1 win in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt he was in the starting line-up and was substituted for Erik Durm in the 76th minute . The cuff that he wore to protect the injured arm after the attack in the cup final was handed over to the club museum when Bartra said goodbye in January 2018.

Season 2017/18

Bartra scored his first Bundesliga goal on August 19, 2017 (1st match day) in BVB's 3-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg with the goal to make it 2-0 in the 27th minute of the game. He dedicated the gate to the victims of the terrorist attack two days earlier in his hometown of Barcelona.

Betis Seville

After Bartra was nominally only fourth central defender under the new coach Peter Stöger behind Sokratis , Ömer Toprak and Manuel Akanji, who was signed in the winter , he moved to Betis Sevilla on January 30, 2018 . After gaining international experience in the Spanish U-18 team in 2009 and completing three internationals, Bartra joined the Spanish U-19 national team in the same year . Private life

Bartra is married to the journalist Melissa Jiménez. Their first daughter Gala was born on August 18, 2015, their second daughter Abril on April 25, 2018. Both announced this via social media. The name "Abril" is Spanish for "April" and was chosen by Bartra and Jiménez because of the attack that took place in April.

He has a twin brother who also played soccer as a teenager and now works as a youth coach.
