Mario Gaspar Pérez Martínez , short Mario Gaspar or just Mario (born November 24, 1990 in Novelda ), is a Spanish football player who is currently active in the Primera División for Villarreal . His traditional position is the right side of the defense .

Career

Club career

Mario played for what is now his home club, FC Villarreal, in his youth. From the 2007/08 season he ran for the club's second team. From the 2008/09 season he was also in the extended squad of the first team, for which he made his debut on March 15, 2009 in a 3-2 defeat by Atlético Madrid . He became important from the beginning of 2011 when he became a regular player and did not miss a minute in the last 19 games of the season because the previous regular Ángel López suffered a cruciate ligament rupture. Mario was able to partially confirm the positive trend in the following season, he came to 22 games in the league and four in the Champions League , where he only received defeats against well-known clubs such as Bayern Munich or SSC Napoli . On May 1, 2012, he was also able to celebrate his first league goal against Sporting Gijón , which could not change the relegation of his team from the first to the second division. In the current season Mario has only played eight games and has now lost his regular place to the 37-year-old Javi Venta .

National teams

Mario has so far played for various youth national teams in Spain , from 2008 to 2009 for the U-19s, in 2009 he played a game for the U-20s and in 2011 he was twice on the U-21 team .

On October 12, 2015 Mario made his debut in the 1-0 away win in the European Championship qualifier against Ukraine under Vicente del Bosque in the A-selection . He scored the winning goal in the 22nd minute of the game.
