Daniele Bonera (born May 31, 1981 in Brescia ) is a former Italian football player and current coach . Since July 2019 he has been the technical assistant to head coach Marco Giampaolo at AC Milan .
Career
Bonera started his career at Brescia Calcio , where he made his professional debut in Serie B in the 1999/2000 season . His first Serie A game he played in 2: 4 defeat against Udinese Calcio in October 2000. After playing two more strong more seasons with Brescia, which even led him to the national team, he moved in 2002 to Parma from ( 2004 Parma FC ). There, too, he was a regular player straight away and after four consistently good seasons made himself interesting for AC Milan , which signed him in 2006 for 2.5 million euros.
In his first season with Milan he made 21 Serie A games and won the Champions League with Milan in May 2007 . In the second and third seasons he was mostly used as a central defender due to the commitment of Gianluca Zambrotta and the many injured central defenders.
Bonera played 16 times for the Italian national team . He made his first appearance for Italy on September 5, 2001 against Morocco . In 2006 he was about to join the winning Italian squad for the 2006 World Cup . It was only in the last week before the World Cup that it decided that the recovered Gianluca Zambrotta could play and Bonera would not be needed.
Since his contract with AC Milan expired at the end of June 2015 , he signed on September 1, 2015 for a year with Villarreal .
