Víctor Ruiz Torre (born January 25, 1989 in Esplugues de Llobregat ) is a Spanish football player on the position of defender .

Club career

Beginnings

Ruiz started as a junior player at FC Barcelona in 1998 . There he went through all age groups until 2002 and was then transferred to the youth department of the lower-class UE Cornellà . At the club, whose men's team played in the fourth and fifth division, Ruiz was used in numerous youth games. After the central defender had worked his way up in the offspring, Espanyol Barcelona finally became aware of the talent, immediately secured the transfer rights to the young defender and brought him into the offspring. There he came from 2006 in various youth teams of the club to use before he was brought in the 2008/09 season for the first time in the squad of the B-team with play in the fourth-rate Tercera División . In this season, the team that had been relegated from the third division in the previous season , rose again in this same. Although no data from Ruiz are known in the 2008/09 season, the defender completed eleven games in the country's third-highest football league in which he remained goalless. In addition, he rose again at the end of the season with the team in the Tercera División.

Professional football

Ruiz made his professional debut on December 6, 2009 in the 4-0 defeat by Racing Santander , when he was used for the entire game and cautioned shortly before the final whistle with the yellow card . Coach Mauricio Pochettino recognized the talent of the young defender and from then on put Ruiz as a regular in the back of his team. 20 more league appearances over the full playing time followed for the central defender until the end of the 2009/10 season , plus an appearance as a substitute player. He succeeded on February 21, 2010 in the 1: 2 defeat against FC Málaga and on April 21, 2010 in the 3: 0 win over Atlético Madrid one goal. The player also won a title that season with Espanyol, which won the Copa Catalunya . From eleventh place in the final table, Ruiz started the 2010/11 season with Espanyol Barcelona , where he played through every single encounter in the first 15 rounds of the season.

At the end of January 2011, the central defender was finally handed over to the Italian first division club SSC Napoli for a transfer fee of six million euros , with Ruiz signing a contract with a term of four and a half years. Furthermore, the Italians ceded the transfer rights to the Argentine team player Jesús Dátolo , who was playing on loan at Espanyol Barcelona at the time, to the Spaniards, with Espanyol finally owning 100% of the player's transfer rights. In Italy, Ruiz found it difficult to assert himself, often sat on the bench without being used and only acted as a regular for a short time. From March to April he only made five league appearances and then received his sixth and last league appearance until the end of the season in May 2011. With the Napolitans, he made it to third place in the final standings with 70 points behind AC Milan (1st) and their local rivals Inter Milan (2nd) and qualified with the team for participation in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League , where the team made it to the round of 16 and was defeated by Chelsea . Ruiz made his competitive debut for SSC Napoli on February 24th in the second leg of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League second leg against FC Villarreal , which the Italians lost 2-1 and was eliminated from the current competition; his league debut followed on March 13 against FC Parma .

Return to Spain

Even before Ruiz started with his team in the 2011/12 season , the defender changed clubs again. For a transfer fee of around eight million euros, Ruiz moved back to his home country and signed a five-year contract with Valencia CF ; the change officially took place on August 30, 2011; his contract is expected to expire on June 30, 2016. Ruiz finally started the 2011/12 season with FC Valencia and acted as a regular under Unai Emery from the start, although other strong central defenders such as Hedwiges Maduro , Adil Rami , Ángel Dealbert and Ricardo Costa were in the squad's squad and around fought a root position. He made his league debut for Valencia on September 10, 2011 in a 1-0 home win over Atlético Madrid. To date (as of April 8, 2012) Ruiz has been used in 22 league games and, with the exception of one encounter in September 2011, was in each of these games for the full game. In addition, he sat on the substitute bench in an encounter in March 2012 and let his team-mates go first in central defense.

For the 2014/15 season, Ruiz moved to Villarreal on loan and returned to them after another season.

In the summer of 2019 he was signed by the Turkish first division club Beşiktaş Istanbul .

National team

Ruiz gained his first experience in the Spanish youth team in 2006 when he was called up for the first time in Spain's U-17 squad and made his debut the same year. This was also his only use in this selection. From 2007 to 2008 he made three international appearances for the U-19 national team, with which he took part in qualifying for the U-19 European Championship in 2008 , among other things . At the subsequent tournament, in which Spain took part as defending champion, the central defender was also in the 18-man squad. However, Ginés Meléndez's troops were eliminated in the preliminary round of the tournament. Shortly after his professional debut for Espanyol, Luis Milla brought Ruiz Torre to the Spanish U-21 squad . In addition to five international appearances until 2011, Ruiz took part with the team in the U-21 European Championship 2011 in Denmark . In the course of the tournament, the team made it to the final, which was finally won 2-0 after goals from Ander Herrera and Thiago against their colleagues from Switzerland . At the beginning of February 2011, Ruiz Torre hit the international media when he hit his opponent Nicki Bille Nielsen in the face in a friendly 2-1 win against the Danish U-21 national team after he cheered his goal provocatively in front of Ruiz. Ruiz was then sent off by the referee. In December 2010, Víctor Ruiz Torre was called up by Johan Cruyff in the Catalan football team . For this he completed a game against the national team of Honduras on December 28, 2010 ; the game was won 0: 4; Torre was in action for the full duration of the game as a central defender. On February 28, 2012 he completed, again under Louis Milla, his first international game for the U-23 (Olympic) selection of Spain; the game against the Egyptian U-23 national team ended in a 3-1 win for the Spaniards.
