The Catalan football selection ( Catalan : Selecció Catalana de Futbol ) is the "national team" of Catalonia established by the FCF ( Federació Catalana de Futbol ) . The Selecció Catalana cannot take part in the international tournaments of UEFA and FIFA , as the Catalan Football Federation (FCF) is not a member of the international associations. The Catalan selection therefore competes in unofficial friendly matches - also against club teams.
history
Catalonia played their first game against Espanyol Barcelona in 1904 . However, the first international match did not take place against France until 1912 , as previously only club teams were played. Since then, the selection has played more or less longer against national, club and non-officially recognized national teams such as. B. the Basque Country . In recent years, the Catalans have also been able to face extremely well-known opponents such as Nigeria , Argentina and Brazil .
As part of the meetings of the Catalan selection, there are regular political rallies for the independence of Catalonia and against the Spanish central state.
From 2009 to 2013 Johan Cruyff was the coach of the Catalan selection.
