José Gonzalvo Falcón (born January 16, 1920 in Mollet del Vallès , † May 31, 1978 in Barcelona ), also known as Gonzalvo II or Josep Gonzalvo , was a Spanish football player and coach.
His older brother Juli Gonzalvo , known as Gonzalvo I , played for Espanyol Barcelona , while his younger brother Marià Gonzalvo , known as Gonzalvo III , also played for FC Barcelona and Spain .
Career
Josep Gonzalvo played for the Spanish second division club SD Ceuta while he was doing his military service . In 1943 he moved to CE Sabadell , where he played with his younger brother Juli. He made his league debut on September 26, 1943 in the 2: 5 defeat by Sevilla FC . After only one season at Sabadell, he went to FC Barcelona in 1944 . In his six years at Barcelona, he played alongside Josep Escolà , Juan Zambudio Velasco , César and Mariano Martín , won three Spanish championships and played a total of 146 league games for FC Barcelona. He ended his professional career after the 1952/53 season, in which he was active for Real Saragossa .
Between 1948 and 1950 Gonzalvo played eight international matches for Spain and took part with his brother Marià in the 1950 World Cup , which Spain finished fourth. He played his first game for Spain on May 30, 1948 in a 2-1 win against Ireland . In the period from 1942 to 1950 he also played five times for the Catalan football team .
In January 1963 he took over as coach from László Kubala at FC Barcelona. Even if he only coached Barça for 15 league games, he was able to lead the team to win the Copa de SE El Generalísimo in 1963 .
