Josep Escolà Segalés (born August 28, 1914 in Barcelona , † March 7, 1998 ibid) was a Spanish football player and coach. The striker , best known for his fair play, spent most of his playing career at FC Barcelona .

Career

Escolà made his league debut for FC Barcelona on December 2, 1934 in a 4-0 win over Arenas Club de Getxo , where he scored the last goal. By 1936 he was able to win the Catalan championship twice and move into the final of the Spanish Cup once, where Real Madrid lost 2-1 in 1936 . When the civil war broke out in Spain in 1936 , league operations were also interrupted until 1939. In 1937 he traveled to the USA with the FC Barcelona team to raise funds . After Barça won a tournament there in New York, only a few FC Barcelona players actually traveled back to Barcelona, but went into exile. Escolà joined the French club FC Sète in 1937 like his teammate Balmanya . After two years, when the civil war was over, Escolà was able to return to FC Barcelona. By the end of his career in 1948, he was able to win the Spanish championship twice with Barça. With a total of 118 competitive goals for FC Barcelona, he is eighth on the list of the club's most successful goal scorers.
