The Arenas Club de Getxo , known as Arenas Club , is a Spanish football club based in the Basque city of Getxo . In 1919 he won the Copa del Rey , at that time the only national championship, and reached the final three more times (1917, 1925, 1927). In 1928, Arenas Club was one of the founding members of the Spanish Football League . The club currently plays in Segunda División B , the third-highest division in Spain.

The club from the district of Las Arenas in Getxo , a posh suburb of Bilbao , was founded in 1909 as Arenas Football Club , and in 1912 it finally adopted the current name Arenas Club de Getxo . The first major success came in 1917 when they played the final of the Copa del Rey and there Real Madrid (then FC Madrid ) lost 2-1 in extra time. Two years later, they finally won the Spanish Cup, defeating FC Barcelona 5-2 in the final. The final was reached two more times, but both were lost to FC Barcelona and Real Unión Irún . In 1928 Arenas Club was one of the founding clubs of the Spanish football league , they remained in the top division for the first seven years, and achieved third place in 1929/30 as the best result. In 1935, the club was relegated to the Segunda División , and could not reach the top division of Spain until the present.
