Mariano Gonzalvo Falcón (* ( March 22 , June 22 or July 9 ) in 1922 in Mollet del Vallès , † 7. April 2007 in Barcelona ), better known as Marià Gonzalvo or Gonzalvo III , was a Spanish footballer.
His two older brothers were also famous footballers. Juli Gonzalvo (* 1917), known as Gonzalvo I , played for Espanyol Barcelona , while Josep Gonzalvo (* 1920, † 1978), called Gonzalvo II , also played for FC Barcelona and was an eight-time Spanish international.
Career
The long-time captain of FC Barcelona played 331 games for the Catalan club between 1940 and 1956 and scored 56 goals. In the meantime he was loaned to Real Saragossa (in the 1941/42 season) and to UE Lleida (in the 1955/56 season). Gonzalvo was considered one of the most talented midfielders in the Spanish League in the 1940s and early 1950s. With Barça, Gonzalvo III was five times Spanish champion and three times cup winner.
Between 1946 and 1954, Marià Gonzalvo also played sixteen times in the Spanish national jersey (1 goal). He played his first international match on June 23, 1946 in a 1-0 draw against Ireland . He succeeded in the 1951/1952 season as captain with the Catalans, the unique feat in Spanish football of winning five titles in one season. The team from this season still bears the nickname Barça de les Cinc Copes (German: Fünf-Pokale-Barça). For the Spanish national team, he took part in the 1950 World Cup with his brother Josep.
