Emilio Sagi Liñán (born March 15, 1900 in Partido Bolívar , Buenos Aires Province , † May 25, 1951 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish football player . His father Emilio Sagi Barba was a well-known Catalan baritone singer, which led to Sagi Liñán being nicknamed Sagi-Barba .
Club career
Sagi-Barba was born in Argentina , where his father toured regularly. He returned to Catalonia at the age of three . In 1916 he came to FC Barcelona from the Catalan club FC Catalonia . There he made his professional debut in 1917 and won his first club title in 1919 by winning the Catalan championship .
In 1919 he went to Terrassa to study and marry his wife, whereupon he withdrew from playing football. But after three years he returned to the FC Barcelona team. With Barça he won the Spanish Cup four times and the Catalan championship nine times in the following years .
He also triumphed with Barcelona in 1929 in the first ever Spanish championship . Sagi-Barba only played four league games without scoring a goal. After the left winger was not used once in the Spanish league in the following season, he fought for a regular place in the seasons 1930/31 and 1931/32 and scored two goals in 21 games in both seasons.
Sagi-Barba ended his career in 1932.
National team career
Sagi-Barba played his only game for the Spanish national team in a 4-2 win against Hungary on December 19, 1926.
Between 1924 and 1931 he ran at least 15 times for the Catalan football team and scored 5 goals. He played alongside Paulino Alcántara , Josep Samitier and Ricardo Zamora and won the Copa Princep de Asturies , an interregional tournament , three times in the 1920s . In 1924 Sagi-Barba scored a goal against the Castilian football team in the final of this tournament. As the game ended 4-4, it had to be repeated and Catalonia ultimately won 3-2.
