The 1928 Copa del Rey was the 26th edition of the Spanish Football Cup.
The competition started on January 31 and ended with the second final replay on June 29, 1928 at the Estadio El Sardinero in Santander . The defending champion of the cup competition was Real Unión . FC Barcelona won the title with a 3-1 win in the final against Real Sociedad .
The round of 16 took place in four groups with home and away legs. The respective group winners and runners-up qualified for the quarter-finals. The group matches were played between February 5th and April 8th.
Plattkó suffered a head wound in the first final game in the 38th minute as a result of a collision with Cholín and could not continue playing. The trained striker Arocha then took his place in goal. After the wound had been sewn with six stitches, Plattkó returned in the 49th minute with a heavily bandaged head. The Spanish poet Rafael Alberti , who followed the game in the stadium, wrote the poem "Oda a Platko" in honor of the goalkeeper.
