The Copa del Generalísimo 1940 was the 36th edition of the Spanish soccer cup competition , which takes place today under the name Copa del Rey .

The competition started on May 12th and ended with the final on June 30th 1940 in Campo de Vallecas in Madrid . The defending champion of the cup competition was Sevilla FC . CD Español won the title with a 3-2 win after extra time against Madrid FC in the final .
