society

Lecue was already playing for Deportivo Arrigorriaga , the club in his hometown , at the age of 15 . In 1929 he joined CD Baskonia and began to make a name for himself, whereupon well-known Spanish clubs became aware of him. For the 1930/31 season he moved to the Primera División for the Basque first division promoted Deportivo Alavés . With Lecue and teammates like Jacinto Quincoces , the club just managed to stay out of the league in the following two years. Before the beginning of the 1932/33 season, Lecue moved to the Andalusian first division promoted Betis Sevilla . In Seville he developed into one of the best players in Spain and became a national player. He was characterized in particular by dangerous free kicks and a hard shot. In the 1934/35 season , Lecue was one of Seville's key players when the club under coach Patrick O'Connell won the only championship title in club history to date. For the 1935/36 season , Lecue was signed by the capital club Real Madrid for 60,000 pesetas . With the Madrilenians he won the Spanish Cup in 1936 with a 2-1 final victory over FC Barcelona . As part of the final, he scored the goal to make it 2-0. Then the Spanish Mountain War broke out. The game was then suspended until 1939.

After the Civil War played Lecue first three years for Real Madrid, reaching the Royal in 1940 again the cup final, which, however, this time against Espanyol lost. For the 1942/43 season he moved to the reigning champions FC Valencia . In the 1943/44 season he then won the Spanish championship for the second time under coach Eduardo Cubells and alongside players like Guillermo Gorostiza or Mundo . In 1944 , 1945 and 1946 he moved into the cup final three more times with Valencia, but without being able to win another cup title. During the 1946/47 season , at the end of which Valencia were again champions, Lecue left the club. From 1948 he played again for a year for the third division club Real Saragossa , with whom he rose to the Segunda División at the end of the season . Thereupon Lecue ended his career.

National team

Lecue made his debut during the 1934 World Cup on May 27 as part of the 3-1 round of 16 victory over Brazil in the Spanish national team . On May 3, 1936, he scored the first and only goal of his national team career in his seventh and last international match in a 2-0 win against Switzerland .
