Eduardo Cubells Ridaura (born January 17, 1900 in Valencia , † March 13, 1964 in Valencia) was a Spanish football player and coach .

Career

As a player

Cubells was in the district of Algirós the city of Valencia was born and played in his youth and early in his career for various then existing football clubs in the region, as well as for Español de Valencia , the predecessor of the club FC Valencia . After moving to Andalusia with his family , he played briefly for Sevilla FC . In 1919, however, he returned to his homeland and made a name for himself with the newly founded FC Valencia. On the website of the club, which at that time did not play in the Estadio Mestalla , but on the so-called Algirós square in Cubells' birth district, Cubells is described as probably the most important player in the early years of Valencia CF. In addition to Antonio "Montes" Montesinos, with whom he - despite existing fan rivalries ("Montistes" and "Cubellistes") had a close friendship, he was one of the first leading players and ultimately one of the first club legends of Valencia CF. In 1925, he also became the club's first player to play a game for the Spanish national team . With Valencia he won the Valencia Regional Championship in 1923, 1925, 1926 and 1927, and the Levante Regional Championship in 1923 and 1925. In 1928 he ended his active career. However, he remained associated with Valencia CF as technical secretary.

As a trainer

For the 1943/44 season Cubells took over as coach at Valencia CF. He immediately won the second Spanish championship in club history with the club. In addition, he moved with his team in 1944 , 1945 and 1946 in the final of the Spanish Cup , but without being able to win it. In 1946 he gave up the coaching post and was again the club's technical secretary. In 1959, he resigned from this post together with club president Luis Casanova .
