The Copa del Rey 1976/77 was the 73rd edition of the Spanish Football Cup .
After the death of Francisco Franco in November 1975 and the reintroduction of the monarchy, the cup competition, previously named after the Generalissimo Copa del Generalísimo , was played for the first time under the name Copa del Rey . It started on September 21, 1976 and ended with the final on June 25, 1977 at the Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid . The defending champion of the cup competition was Atlético Madrid . Betis Sevilla won the title with an 8-7 win on penalties in the final against Athletic Bilbao . This qualified the Andalusians for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1977/78 .
First round
The first legs were played on September 21, 22, 23 and 29, the second legs on October 9, 26 and 27, 1976.
Second round
The first legs were played on November 9, 10, 11 and 17, on December 22, 1976 and January 6, 1977, the second legs on December 23, 1976, on January 26 and on January 1, 2, 3 ., February 9 and 10, 1977.
- ↑ The second leg at the Estadio Balaídos had to be canceled because the field was flooded by the overridden Río Lagares. The CF Reus Deportivo then withdrew from the competition.
Third round
The first legs were played on February 23 and 24 and on March 2, the second legs on March 9, 10 and 16, 1977.
