history

Burgos CF

The club was founded in 1922 under the name Gimnástica Burgalesa , the current name Burgos Club de Fútbol was only adopted in 1949. 1971 finally succeeded for the first time promotion to the Primera División . Major players at all times were winger Juanito and midfielder Miguel Ángel Portugal , both of whom would later join Real Madrid . Overall, the club played six seasons in the top Spanish league between 1971 and 1980. However, a severe financial crisis led to the dissolution of the association in 1983.

Real Burgos

Real Burgos CF took over from the Burgos CF amateur team in 1983. The team was able to work its way up quickly to higher divisions and finally achieved promotion to the Primera División in 1990 . They stayed there for three seasons and achieved the best result in the club's history in 1991/92 with ninth place. From 1992 to 1994 the club was coached by Theo Vonk from the Netherlands . However, renewed economic difficulties gradually led to a forced relegation to the Tercera División and to the renewed dissolution of the club in 1994.

Start-up

In 1994, Burgos Club de Fútbol was re-established under the leadership of President Jose María Quintano. The team started in the regional, but managed in 1996 in the Tercera División and only one year later to the Segunda División B . In the 2001/02 season, the club finally even played the Segunda División , but promptly rose again.
