The CF Palencia (officially: Club de Fútbol Palencia ) was a Spanish football club from Palencia in the autonomous region of Castile and León . The association, founded in 1975 played thirteen seasons in the third-tier Segunda División B .

history

The CF Palencia was founded in 1975. After the club played exclusively in various regional leagues in the first few years of its existence, it made it into the Tercera División , the fourth league in Spanish football, for the first time in 1980 . From this one got down again in the first year, but again only one season later the renewed jump to the Tercera División followed. In the 1989/90 season Palencia finished first in the Tercera División, so that the club was able to rise to the third Spanish division for the first time in its history. There they finished sixth in the first year, which of course meant staying up and almost justified in the fight for promotion that Real Madrid Castilla and SD Compostela secured themselves this year . The following year, Palencia finished twelfth. In the 1992/93 season they finished fourth, which this time entitled to participate in promotion playoffs, but where they failed. The club stayed in Segunda División B for three more years before moving to the fourth division after only 19th place in the table had jumped out at the end of the 1995/96 season. It was not until 2003 that the Tercera División could be promoted again, even though it was already in first place in 1998. At that time, however, Palencia failed in relegation games. After promotion to the Segunda División B in 2003, the club was able to hold on to the third-highest division for another five years before relegation to the Tercera División followed again. They just missed promotion again in 2006/07 when they finished third and had to give preference to SD Huesca in the relegation . A year later, the gang had to start again in the fourth division, where after a year the promotion was successful. In the 2009/10 season the CF Palencia finished 3rd, failed again in relegation on promotion, this time to Real Jaén , but was able to qualify for the Copa del Rey.

In November 2012 the association announced its dissolution due to insolvency.

Stadion

CF Palencia plays its home games in the Estadio La Nueva Balastera , which has space for almost 12,000 spectators and was built in 2006. It replaced the previous stadium in Palencia, the Estadio La Balastera, which was built in 1943 and still housed the predecessor club of CF Palencia, Atlético Palencia, which was later dissolved and replaced by CF Palencia as a municipal club.
