Sociedad Deportiva Compostela is a Spanish football club from the Galician city of Santiago de Compostela . The club, which took part in the Primera División between 1994 and 1998, currently plays in the Tercera División , the fourth division of Spanish football.
history
The history of SD Compostela, which was founded in 1962, is characterized by a very rapid rise and an equally quick fall. The club spent most of the early years in regional football. It was not until 1991 that he was promoted to the Segunda División . Just three years later, a playoff victory in the relegation against Rayo Vallecano entitled to participate in the Primera División . Between 1994 and 1998 SD Compostela remained in the top Spanish league and surprised with an attractive style of play. The club had the best season in 1995/96 , when they finished the first half of the season in second place under coach Fernando Vázquez and finished in tenth place. In 1998 , after a playoff defeat in the relegation against Villarreal, relegation to the Segunda División followed. From then on, the club, led by President José María Caneda, got into debt when attempting a rapid rise and was forcibly relegated by the association in 2003 and 2004 due to insolvency. In just six years, the club crashed from the first to the fifth division in Spain. In the 2007/08 season he was promoted to the Tercera División , where they took first place in Group 1. In the playoff games they remained victorious against Atlético Monzón and after only one season in the fourth division managed to move up to the Segunda Division B. Since the 2010/11 season, the club has been playing under the name "SD Campus Stellae" in the Preferente Autonómica (5th League Spain). At the end of the 2011/12 season, the club rose as the Galician champions in the fourth division, the Tercera División. In 2013, the next hurdle was taken and one rose to the Segunda B. SD Compostela has played in the Tercera División since relegation in the 2015/16 season.
