The 1913 Copa del Rey marks two Spanish football cups that were held in 1913. The official tournament was held in Madrid , an unofficial tournament took place in Barcelona with defending champions FC Barcelona . However, both winners are now officially recognized by the Spanish Association as the Spanish Cup winners of 1913.
The game ended 2-2 after regular time, both teams agreed to extend the game by 30 minutes. Since no goals were scored during this time either and dusk fell , both teams had to repeat the final on the following day.
Racing Club de Irún almost won its first Spanish Cup against Athletic Bilbao, one of the two record winners at the time (4 titles alongside Madrid FC ).
Originally, three teams were supposed to take part in this tournament in Barcelona , but the team from FC Pontevedra withdrew shortly before the start of the tournament, so Real Sociedad San Sebastián and FC Barcelona played the title among themselves. After a return game and a replay between March 16 and 23, 1913, FC Barcelona emerged as the cup winners.
Since there were no winners in either the first or second leg, the away goals rule did not exist and twilight was falling at the end of the second leg, both teams agreed on a replay.
FC Barcelona were able to turn their third game around after falling behind and finally won the Spanish Cup for the third time. In doing so, he caught up with the then record winners Athletic Bilbao and Madrid FC (both 4 titles).
