Copa del Rey 1910
The Copa del Rey 1910 marks two Spanish football cups held in 1910. One unofficial tournament took place in San Sebastián with defending champion Vasconia San Sebastián , the other is considered the first Spanish championship and was held in Madrid . However, both winners are now officially recognized by the Spanish Association as Spanish Cup winners of 1910.
In 1909 the Spanish Football Federation, the FECF (Federación Española de Clubes de Fútbol), was founded. It was the first national organization authorized to host national championships and had the privilege of organizing the Copa del Rey.
Defending champion Vasconia San Sebastián pleaded for the tournament not to be held in Madrid - as was always the case up to then - but in San Sebastián. The Spanish association was opposed by a majority, which eventually led to a dispute between the club from San Sebastián and the other clubs. In addition, the defending champion was not a member of the FECF , so they could not participate in the Spanish championship. Together with clubs that were also not part of the Spanish Football Association, the Basque club eventually formed a rival association, the UECF , and organized their own tournament in San Sebastián.

The originally unofficial tournament held by the UECF in San Sebastián took place between 19 and 21 March 1910. All three participating teams each played once against each other in group mode at the Estadio de Ondarreta , the home of the defending champion Vasconia. The Spanish Football Association FECF tried to make the tournament illegal, but could not enforce the ban.

At the same time, with their third title, they were able to catch up with record winners Madrid FC (4 titles), who achieved a disappointing performance with zero points.

Only three teams took part in the first Spanish championship, which was held by the FECF in Madrid. The Galician champions Real Fortuna FC took no part, as did the Andalusian champions Recreativo Huelva . In the regions of Bizkaia , Madrid and Gipuzkoa , no regional championship was played during the season. The field of participants ultimately formed the Catalan champions FC Barcelona , the Galician club Deportivo La Coruña and the capital city club Español de Madrid . All three participating teams played against each other once in group mode between 23 and 26 May 1910.

After both FC Barcelona and Español de Madrid had both won a game against Deportivo La Coruña and were tied for 1st place, the last tournament game between the two opponents was virtually a final for the Copa del Rey. With a 3-2 win against Español de Madrid, today's record winner FC Barcelona won the first Spanish championship at that time in the last game or, from today's perspective, the second Spanish Cup from 1910 and thus became cup winners for the first time in its history.
