Carlos Ruiz Herrero (born June 7, 1948 in Bilbao ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career

Ruiz began his career at CD Getxo , a suburban club in Bilbao . From 1969 he ran for the reserve team of Athletic Bilbao . On September 12, 1970 he made his debut with the professionals in the Primera División in a 1-1 draw with FC Barcelona .

In the course of the eleven years with the Rojiblancos , Ruiz completed a total of 275 competitive games. In 1973 he won the Copa del Rey with his team , and in the 1974/75 season he secured the title of top scorer . Internationally, the Spaniard stood out for his performances in the 1976/77 UEFA Cup , when he scored five goals in eight games and threw top-class players such as AC Milan and FC Barcelona out of the tournament before going into the finals due to the Lost away goals rule against Juventus Turin .

In 1981, Ruiz moved to Espanyol Barcelona in Catalonia . Following the 1981/82 season, he ended his career.
