Manolo , real name Manuel Sánchez Delgado (born January 17, 1965 in Cáceres ), is a former Spanish football player .

Career

Manolo started his career in his hometown with CP Cacereño . After two seasons with CE Sabadell , he moved to Real Murcia in 1985 and immediately rose to the Primera División with the club . He made his debut in the top Spanish league on August 31, 1986 against Real Madrid . In the course of this game, which was lost 3-1, Manolo scored his first of a total of 21 first division goals for Real Murcia.

For the 1988/89 season Manolo was signed by Atlético Madrid . In the Spanish capital, he celebrated the greatest successes of his career alongside his strike partner Paulo Futre . In 1991 and 1992 Atlético won the Copa del Rey . In addition, Manolo secured the title of top scorer in the 1991/92 season with 27 goals .

In 1995 he left the club and let his career with UD Mérida in the Segunda División end.

Manolo played a total of 28 international matches for the Spanish national team . He scored the first of a total of nine international goals during his debut on November 16, 1988 against Ireland . He also represented his country at the 1990 World Cup in Italy .
