The Bohemian national football team was the national team of Bohemia . She played a total of six international matches between 1906 and 1908 .

Politically, Bohemia belonged to Austria-Hungary , and the multi-ethnic state saw its existence threatened by the national movements also in sport. Therefore, in 1908 the Austrian Association enforced the FIFA exclusion of the Bohemian Football Association, which was founded in 1901 .

history

On October 19, 1901, the Bohemian Football Association was founded in Prague. Admission to FIFA took place on June 2, 1906, but only provisionally and under protest from Austria-Hungary , and final admission as a full member was only achieved on May 20, 1907 at a congress in Amsterdam . Under pressure from Austria-Hungary, Bohemia was excluded again on June 30, 1908.

The Czech national team played their first official international match on April 1, 1906 in Budapest. She separated from the Hungarian selection 1: 1 in a draw. In all other country comparisons except for the last one, the opponent was Hungary, with Bohemia winning the only victory on October 6, 1907 in the Slavia Stadium in the Prague district of Letná with 5: 3 (after 2: 3 deficit at halftime).

On June 13, 1908, the Bohemian national team played their last game. The clash against the then overwhelming English selection was lost in the Slavia Stadium with 0: 4.

At the Summer Olympics in London this year, where football was played as a regular discipline for the first time, Bohemia - along with Hungary - was no longer allowed to participate. Therefore, the Netherlands and France were able to move into the semi-finals of the football tournament without a fight .

The players of the Czech national team came without exception from Prague clubs, mostly from Slavia Prague . In the game against England even only Slavia players appeared.

  1. The Hungarian association MLSZ also counts the game at Magyarország - Csehszlovákia (Hungarian, online at mlsz.hu) on April 5, 1903 against Czechoslovakia - which did not exist at the time - and that is not counted by FIFA and the Czech association becomes.
