U-19 European Football Championship 2018 / Qualification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 120 qualifying matches for the 34th U-19 European Football Championship 2018 took place between October 3, 2017 and March 27, 2018. All 55 member associations of UEFA, with the exception of Finland , which had already been selected as the host for the final round, played the seven free starting places for the final round of the European Championship among themselves.

mode

The U-19 national soccer teams of the respective countries initially played against each other in 13 groups with four participants each. The first and second of the groups qualified for the elite round, where there were again seven groups with four participants each, who played against each other. The group winners of the seven groups qualified for the European Championship.

When placing in the table, the highest number of points from all three games in the group counts. If two teams are tied, the direct comparison between them counts first. Only then does the goal difference and the total goals scored from all games take effect.

1 round

Finland did not take part in the qualification as it was already hosted for the finals. In addition, Portugal and Spain each received a bye in advance for the elite round of qualification. All of UEFA's other 52 member associations sent a team to the first round of qualifying. The group first and second of the 13 groups qualified for the elite round.
