The Große Wiese stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Hüsten district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Arnsberg in the Sauerland . It is part of the Große Wiese sports center and is the home ground of the SV Hüsten 09 football club , whose predecessor was SuS Hüsten 09 . In addition, the stadium is used by the LAC Veltins Hochsauerland athletics association. The sports facility offers 13,000 seats, 2,650 of which are covered.
history
From the 1978/79 season, the home club SuS Hüsten 09 , which played in the then first-class Gauliga Westfalen in the 1930s , was able to start playing in the Große Wiese stadium. The successor club SV Hüsten 09, founded in 1999, is currently playing in season 2 of the Westphalia regional soccer league .
With 13,000 seats, the Große Wiese stadium is the largest stadium in the Hochsauerland district . In addition to the natural grass field surrounded by the six-lane athletics facility, there has also been an artificial turf field on the facility since 2014 . Furthermore, a Finnish track , a tennis court , a triple sports hall and the NASS adventure pool belong to the sports center.
In the past, well-known German football clubs such as Borussia Dortmund , FC Schalke 04 , FC Bayern Munich or VfL Bochum as well as international clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam , Roda Kerkrade or Beşiktaş Istanbul have played test matches here. At the earlier "Athletics Gala" were u. a. the stars Carl Lewis , Merlene Ottey , Linford Christie , Dieter Baumann , Heike Drechsler , Lars Riedel , Jürgen Schult , Willi Wülbeck and Frank Busemann will be guests at the Arnsberger Stadium.
In 2017 Westfalia Rhynern considered playing so-called risk games in Hüsten in the event of promotion to the West Regional Football League . However, this idea was soon discarded.
The defective floodlight system was repaired in March 2018 . In addition, further renovation work, such as the installation of new changing rooms, showers and heating, is planned for around EUR 700,000 in 2018 .

So far, five international matches have taken place in the Große Wiese stadium, four of which are matches for German national football teams.
