SuS Hüsten 09 (officially: Spiel und Sport Hüsten 09 eV ) was a football club in the Arnsberg district of Hüsten in the Sauerland . The club had its most successful period before the Second World War , when it was South Westphalia champion five times in a row from 1929 to 1933 and played in the then first-class Gauliga Westphalia from 1933 to 1938 .
history
From the foundation to the end of the war (1909 to 1945)
The club's history began on April 18, 1909, when some citizens of Hüsten founded the club " Spiel und Sport Hüsten 09 ". In addition to football, athletics was also practiced in the club at that time. The football department's first major successes came in the late 1920s. In 1929, the club succeeded in winning the championship in South Westphalia for the first time with a 5-1 final win in Hagen over VfB 07 Weidenau . The club was able to repeat this success over the next four years. Thus, the club qualified five times in a row for the finals of the West German Championship. Here, however, the competition was too strong. SuS 09 did not succeed in winning the title or qualifying for the final round of the German championship.
At the beginning of the 1933/34 season, however, the club was included in the newly created Gauliga Westfalen , which at that time - along with 15 other Gauligen - was the top division in German football. As the first only South Westphalian club, the Hüstener played an outstanding role in the first years of membership in the league. Unforgettable is especially the season 1933-34 , in which the "09er" not only gaining an outstanding third place among the ten Westphalia Gauligisten but managed the club with a 2: 1 victory the later champions Schalke 04 's only defeat to be taught throughout the season. In the following years, the club took 7th place in the Gauliga ( 1934/35 ), 4 ( 1935/36 , Hüsten brought the only point loss to the again sovereign Westphalian champion Schalke 04) and 5 ( 1936/37 ). In the 1937/38 season , however, the team was unable to match the form of previous years and was relegated to ninth place in the Gauliga. In the following season 1938/39 the Hüstener reached the promotion round to the Gauliga, but could not prevail in this and thus missed the immediate promotion. Once again - 1940/41 - the Hüstener reached the Gauliga ascent round. This time too, however, they failed as second in the group behind SpVgg Herten .
Post-war period until the merger (1945 to 1999)
After the Second World War , the club could no longer build on the great successes of the pre-war period. From the 1952/53 to 1955/56 season, the Hüstener played in the four-tier state league, which was the top division in Westphalian amateur football before the two-track association league was introduced. After the founding of the third-class association league in the overall hierarchy of German football in the 1956/57 season, SuS Hüsten 09 belonged to this top division in the amateur field from 1957/58, in which, however, one could only hold up until 1959. After more than a decade in the national league and lower divisions, he was promoted back to the association league in 1971. For the next 13 years - up to the 1983/84 season - the Hüstener belonged to the highest Westphalian league - from 1978/79 the single-track amateur league of Westphalia . After relegation to the now only second highest amateur class, the Association League, in 1984 he was immediately promoted back to the top division. The club stayed there for two seasons, until 1987 - until today for good - had to say goodbye to the third division. In the following years the sporting decline began, which ended in 1991 in the district league. It was not until 2003 that they were promoted to the district league, from which they had to relegate in 2006. In the meantime - in 1999 - the merger with Hüstener SV and the renaming to the current name of the association took place.
Successor club SV Hüsten 09 (since 1999)
In the 2008/09 season - just in time for the club's centenary - the Sauerlanders won the championship title in the Arnsberg district league and thus promoted to the eight-class district league. Two years later, the Hüstener rose to the national league as champions of their district league relay. There they just missed relegation in the 2011/12 season and thus relegated back to the district league. However, the Sauerland managed to return to the regional league in the following 2012/13 season. The club, which plays its home games in the "Große Wiese" stadium and adjacent adjacent courts, currently has three men's teams, an "old men 's team" and numerous teams in the junior and female junior areas from A to G Youth.
