Radio Sauerland is a local radio for the Hochsauerland district . Radio Sauerland started on October 1, 1990 with a test program and on October 6, 1990 with official broadcasting. The station has its license from the State Agency for Media North Rhine-Westphalia . Paul Senske has been editor-in-chief since the year it was founded. With his departure on February 1, 2015, Anke Gebhardt became the new editor-in-chief.

Program and people

Radio Sauerland broadcasts seven hours of local programs from Meschede from Monday to Friday . Monday to Friday is 6:00 to 10:00 the morning show Radio Sauerland in the morning and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the afternoon magazine Radio Sauerland afternoon broadcast. On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the program Radio Sauerland is broadcast on weekends .

Local news is sent every half hour on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. There is also weather information and traffic news. In the local broadcast hours, mainly local reports, interviews and reports are broadcast. The rest of the program and the world news on the hour are taken over by the broadcast program provider Radio NRW from Oberhausen .

According to the State Media Act of North Rhine-Westphalia, Radio Sauerland also broadcasts citizens' radio on its frequencies . This is not editorially part of the program and is provided by HochSauerlandWelle, Medienwerkstatt Sauerland Welle e. V. Meschede and the Catholic Media Workshop Meschede. Citizens' radio broadcasts run Mondays to Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays and public holidays from 7 p.m.

Radio Sauerland is financed through advertising. In addition to local advertising, e.g. Sometimes it is broadcast separately on the respective frequencies in the old districts of Brilon , Meschede and Arnsberg , Radio Sauerland also broadcasts nationwide advertising from Radio NRW , which is switched on before the news on the hour.

Radio Sauerland is one of 44 NRW local radio stations. The transmitter is based on the two-pillar model. There is an operator association (one pillar) and an operating company (second pillar). The organizing association for local radio in the Hochsauerlandkreis "Radio Sauerland" eV is the organizer of the program and employer of the editorial staff according to the state media law of North Rhine-Westphalia. Members of the organizing community are representatives of socially relevant groups (e.g. churches, trade unions, employers 'association, district youth council, district sports association, journalists' associations). The chairman of the organizing group "Radio Sauerland eV" is Ferdi Lenze. The deputy chairmen are Marlies Albus and Ulrich Bork, who are also branch managers.

In the operating company "Radio Hochsauerlandkreis mbH & Co.KG" the Funke Mediengruppe holds 75 percent, a trustee with 21.11 percent and the Hochsauerlandkreis with 3.89 percent. Marketing tasks in the area of ​​radio advertising were outsourced to Westfunk .

Radio Sauerland broadcasts with seven stations on six VHF frequencies:

• 96.2 Transmitter Langer Berg (Antfeld): output 400 watts, for Olsberg , Bestwig and Brilon

• 106.5 Bollerberg transmitter : output 500 watts, for Winterberg , Medebach and Hallenberg

Due to the geographical location, the technical range via VHF in the Hochsauerlandkreis is only around 75%. Especially in the old district of Brilon there is interference from other transmitters (mainly from the Netherlands ) that broadcast on the same frequencies.

UPLINK Network GmbH from Düsseldorf has been responsible for operating the VHF frequencies since May 2016, replacing Media Broadcast as part of a market liberalization of the Bundespost's successor .

Radio Sauerland can also be received via web radio, via the app, the radio player and Amazon Echo.
