Radio RSG is the local radio for Remscheid and Solingen and broadcasts in the Bergisches Land ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) on VHF frequencies 94.3, 107.9 and, since August 2008, an additional 92.2 MHz. The station can also be received in the Bergisches Land via the cable network and worldwide via an Internet stream. Radio RSG started broadcasting on August 30, 1992.

Content

Radio RSG broadcasts its local program on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. (“Radio RSG - Die Morgenshow”) and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (“Radio RSG - Feierabend”) as well as “Radio RSG at the weekend” on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sports events in the region are often summarized on Sundays from 5 p.m. in the one-hour program “Sport am weekend” with interview guests in the studio.

In addition, around three-minute local news is broadcast every hour Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - on weekdays between 5:00 and 10:00 as well as between 4 and 6 p.m. with headlines from all over the world.

In the rest of the time, Radio RSG takes over the main program of radio NRW GmbH in Oberhausen , including the world news on the hour around the clock and the advertising window shortly before. Jingles and drops or claims with the station identifier “Radio RSG” are automatically triggered by a signal from Oberhausen outside the local broadcasting times in the broadcasting house in Solingen and usually inserted seamlessly into the current program using the ducking process.

Like all private broadcasters in North Rhine-Westphalia, Radio RSG is also obliged by the State Media Act to broadcast community radio programs on its frequencies. These are pre-recorded programs that are created and produced by people or groups in the region. Such programs are broadcast in the evening from 9 p.m. (on Sundays from 8 p.m.) on Radio RSG.

Moderators

The best-known voices of Radio RSG are Thorsten Kabitz and Tania Janke, Clara Pieck and Sascha Preuß - they each present the morning program in pairs, as well as Daniel Morsbach and Michael Höing (formerly Neubert), who alternate the local edition of “Radio RSG am Wochenochen “Moderate in the mornings. Lisa Jülich has also been on the air frequently since 2019.

The former formative presenters include Jörg Bertram (editor-in-chief at Radio Bonn / Rhein-Sieg ), Volker Kutz ( RTL ), Michael Tobias, René Rabenschlag ( WDR ), Marc Heinisch and Timo Spicker (WDR).

Audience ratings

Radio RSG is by far the most popular program in Remscheid and Solingen : According to the latest Electronic Media Analysis (EMA NRW 2015 / I), 35 percent of Remscheid and Solingen residents tune into the local station. The fee-financed programs 1LIVE (with 21%) and WDR 2 (with 20%) continue to have significantly lower ratings in the two cities. According to media analysis, WDR 4 has remained constant for several years with a range of 17%.

The length of stay in the region is currently 257 minutes. Radio RSG is particularly popular with 30 to 59 year olds. With over 100,000 listeners over the age of 14 in Remscheid, Solingen and the surrounding cities, the station has been the most popular radio station since 1994. According to EMA NRW , the most popular broadcast is “Radio RSG am Morgen” - a quarter of all residents in “RSG-Land” wake up to the morning moderators Thorsten Kabitz / Tania Janke and Clara Pieck / Sascha Preuss.

The electronic media analysis is carried out by independent institutes on behalf of the NRW local radio stations. To evaluate the current EMA (2015 / I), over 27,000 randomly selected people across the country were questioned about their radio use in telephone interviews.

reception

The transmitters used by Radio RSG on 94.3 MHz (Solingen location, telecommunications tower at Zentral , 200 W) and 107.9 MHz (Remscheid-Hohenhagen location, 100 W) complement each other. While the 94.3 MHz frequency can also be heard in neighboring cities and districts, reception of the 107.9 MHz frequency is limited to the Remscheid urban area, especially as there is considerable interference from other stations here. Therefore, after several frequency tests, the additional frequency 92.2 MHz was put into operation in August 2008, which also radiates 100 W from the Remscheid-Hohenhagen location in an easterly direction in order to close the reception gaps.

There are also frequencies in the cable network. In Remscheid and Wermelskirchen you can hear Radio RSG on 105.55 MHz, in the cities of Solingen , Haan , Hilden , Langenfeld , Leichlingen and Monheim on 104.25 MHz. Like all other local radio stations in North Rhine-Westphalia , Radio RSG also offers a live stream on the Internet.

Radio RSG was the only local radio station to broadcast programs worldwide via shortwave. On New Year's morning, the transmitter has been using the 6015 kHz frequency of the Jülich short wave center with 100 kW for New Year's greetings for years. The moderators Jörg Bertram and Michael Tobias received broadcast confirmations for each basket from all over the world. One listener had even followed the program in Australia.
