Radio Siegen is the local radio for the Siegen-Wittgenstein district .

Station history

Radio Siegen went on the air on June 2, 1990, after the license had previously been granted on January 26, 1990, as the fourth of currently 45 local radio stations in NRW . As early as 1987, the community of organizers for local radio, made up of social groups and organizations, was founded and is responsible for the local radio program. The chairman of the group of organizers is the district council member Roland Abel. The newspaper publishers of the local newspapers are involved in the economic operation of the local radio according to their market shares, as do the Siegen-Wittgenstein district (15%) and the city of Siegen (10%). The editorial team and studios, advertising department and administration of Radio Siegen were housed in the Funkhaus am Obergraben 33 in Siegen for 27 years . Radio Siegen has been broadcasting from a listed building at Tiergartenstrasse 37, the former "Trinity Church of St. Trinity", since November 1st, 2017. Nine hours of local programs are broadcast daily from the studios, the rest of the time the supporting program is taken over by Radio NRW - interrupted by local windows (ten minutes each) between 5:00 and 20:00. The local programs produced in-house include the programs "Am Morgen" from 6:00 am to 9:00 am as well as "Am Morgen" from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and "Am Morgen" from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Citizen radio will be Mon. – Sat. broadcast from 8 pm to 9 pm and Sun from 7 pm to 8 pm. At the weekend, Radio Siegen offers the sports program "Admission free". News every full hour is taken over by Radio NRW, the "Nachrichten von hier" can be heard every half hour.

In September 2007 the new website of the station went online. She now has playlists for the last three days and a live stream . A new website has been online since spring 2011.

Personalities

Editor-in-chief is Rüdiger Schlund, well-known presenters at Radio Siegen are Steffen Ziegler, Ann-Christin Schmidt, Tom Schirmer and Florian Rubens.

Former employees include Bianca Hauda and Timo Latsch , who reported for years on the games of Sportfreunde Siegen . Latsch still appears in the program today as a football expert.

Reception area

Due to its geographical location in the triangle of three countries, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district has numerous other public and private broadcasters from Hesse ( hr and FFH ) and Rhineland-Palatinate ( SWR ) in addition to the five WDR programs and RPR ) in the region. According to its own statements, Radio Siegen has had a high number of listeners among local radio stations in North Rhine-Westphalia since it started broadcasting. With the other regional and national radio programs that can be received in Siegen-Wittgenstein, a comparison with Radio Siegen is not possible because these radio programs have different program offers and broadcasting areas.

Reception via antenna

A special feature is that the radio station operated by Radio Siegen under the name Aue is located on the Hohen Hessel , which belongs to Kirchhundem in the Olpe district.

Because of the topographical features in the district, antenna reception is very difficult in the eastern districts of Bad Berleburg (here: Elsoff and Edertal ) and in parts of Burbach (e.g. in Hickengrund and on the B 54). Either reception is not possible or there is interference with other broadcasters on the same frequency (e.g. with Radio Bob on 88.2 MHz in the above-mentioned areas of Burbach).

Reception via cable

At Unitymedia:

At Kabel Deutschland:

Reception situation in the district of Olpe and in the district of Altenkirchen

The news desk of Radio Siegen also supplies parts of the Olpe district with local news because there is still no local radio broadcast there. A useful reception is only possible in Olpe (only in places in higher elevations and southern parts of the city), Wenden , Kirchhundem and Lennestadt via the VHF transmitters from Siegen and Bad Berleburg-Aue. In the Olpe district, frequencies are reserved for their own local radio that cannot be used by Radio Siegen (not even for a limited period until the start of their own radio station). Because the district of Olpe does not belong to the official broadcasting area of Radio Siegen, broadcasting via the cable networks there was also stopped because of the feed-in fees to Unitymedia .

The Altenkirchen district also does not belong to the broadcasting area of Radio Siegen. Nevertheless, the program is fed into the Vodafone Kabel Deutschland cable network, at least in the so-called upper district (which is geographically part of the Siegerland ). In addition, the VHF frequencies from Siegen and Neunkirchen can be received in Mudersbach, Betzdorf and Herdorf without any problems.
