Aue is located in the northwest of the historic Wittgensteiner Land , in the Auer Kessel , cleared by the fan of the Kappel , the northwesternmost part of the Wittgenstein Chamber , which meets the Rothaar ridge to the north and is bordered to the west and east by other wooded parts of the Rothaar Mountains ( Auer Ederbergland ). In the south of the village the Kappel flows into the Eder.

Neighboring towns of Aue are Wingeshausen (north), Berghausen (east-south-east), Birkefehl (south), Birkelbach (south-south-west), Röspe (south-west) and Rüspe (west).

The highest point of the Auer district is found at 661.2 m on the border with the Olpe district in its extreme west, about 0.6 km north of the better known, 658.4 m high Burgkopf , also located on the district boundary . The lowest is about 420 m in the extreme southeast, at the outflow of the Eder, which flows into the Preisdorf here .

The Berg Burg (599.8 m) with the ring wall system is on the right side of the Ederside, on the boundary of Berghausen . The highest mountain of that section of the Auer Ederbergland on the Auer district is the Bilsburg (624.2 m).

history

Church in Aue

Castle

Remains of a ring wall system from the time of the Celts and Germanic peoples on the mountain Burg to the right of the Eder are the oldest surviving traces of earlier settlement in the area. The complex is dated between 600 and 400 years before Christ. Who built these fortifications cannot be said with any certainty. In the 4th century AD, the planned settlement by the Franks took place. It cannot be precisely said whether permanent settlement took place until the turn of the millennium.

Village

The history of the village of Aue is closely related to that of Wingeshausen . The first secure documentary mention took place in the year 1624. The place in its medieval spelling Awen was in connection with the parish Wingeshausen. In 1782, the Sehlberger Hammer can be found in Aue. In 1819 Aue belonged to the Wingeshausen school district. From 1845 the place belongs to the Berghausen office, later to the Berleburg office.

On January 1, 1965, part of the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg estate (5.56 km 2 ) was added.

As part of the municipal reorganization , Aue was incorporated into the city of Bad Berleburg on January 1, 1975.

The main occupation is to be found in agriculture, mining and industry.
