Birkefehl is a district of Erndtebrück in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The village has about 350 inhabitants.

The area around Birkefehl was already settled by the Celts in the Iron Age . An Iron Age burial ground testifies to this . When exactly the place was repopulated in the Middle Ages cannot be said with certainty. However, it can be assumed that this process took place in the 14th century. In a Berleburg document from 1494, the place is mentioned in connection with a sale of goods (BA document no. 1249). At that time the place was still called "Birkenfeld". At the beginning of the 16th century, Birkefehl was desolate. In 1538 the resettlement takes place on the instructions of Count Johann von Wittgenstein.

In 1781 Birkefehl belonged to the Birkelbach school mill. It was expanded in 1819 when it was allocated to the Birkelbach district of the mayor . From 1845 Birkefehl belongs to the Berghausen office.

The place has belonged to the municipality of Erndtebrück since the territorial reform, which came into force on January 1, 1975, and was an independent municipality in the then Wittgenstein district until it was incorporated .
