Balde is almost centrally located in the Wittgensteiner Land . A small part in the south of the village extends at the Steinigen Kopf (634 m) over the Lahn-Eder watershed, which also forms the Rhine-Weser watershed. From here, when the weather is clear, you can see the Großer Feldberg im Taunus in the south, 84 km away (as the crow flies). In the north of the village runs the 51st north latitude .

The first documentary evidence points to the year 1538, when the place is mentioned in connection with the parish Weidenhausen. At that time the place belonged to the Berleburg family . At the beginning of the 16th century, Balde was a desert. In 1571 an iron hammer was built because new iron finds were made in the mountains around Balde. In 1578 hammer huts were added.

Balde has belonged to the Berghausen Schulzerei since 1781. In 1819 he moved to the Dotzlar school district . Leimstruth, Melbach and Rohrbach belonged to the municipality of Balde.

The place has belonged to the municipality of Erndtebrück since the territorial reform, which came into force on January 1, 1975, and was an independent municipality in the then Wittgenstein district until it was incorporated .
