The place is in the eastern part of the Wittgensteiner Land . The Elsoff stream of the same name flows through the village .

history
The first settlement took place in the 8th century. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1059. In 1194, Elsoff was granted bailiwick rights with the villages of Alertshausen , Beddelhausen and Schwarzenau . The place burned down in 1442 except for a few buildings. From the beginning of the 16th century there were disputes between the Counts of Wittgenstein and the Landgrave-Hessian office of Battenberg . This culminated in 1725 in an uprising that went down in history as the "Elsoff Peasants' War".
Since January 1st, 1975 Elsoff belongs to Bad Berleburg.
