geography

location

Schüllar is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park in the Wittgensteiner Land . It is located on the lower reaches of the Schüllarsbach , directly above its confluence with the Odeborn . The main route is the federal highway 480 . The hamlet of Kühhude is also located directly on the Rothaar ridge in the district of Schüllar .

Neighboring places

The neighboring villages include Girkhausen in the northeast, Wunderthausen a bit away in the east-northeast, Wemlighausen directly in the east-southeast and Bad Berleburg in the south-southwest.

history

The first secured documents name the place in 1332 as Schoinlair . In 1370 the parish of Schüllar was pledged. In 1570 the parish was changed to Berleburg. In 1806 the place belongs to the Girkhausen school mill. In 1819 the Schüllar-Astenberg district was founded with the villages of Wemlighausen, Homrighausen, Girkhausen, Wunderthausen, Diedenshausen, Langewiese, Astenberg and Mollseifen. In 1845 it was reclassified to the Girkhausen office.

In the early Middle Ages, Schüllar was not a village in the true sense of the word, but only consisted of a monastery and its outbuildings. The foundations of the actual monastery are probably under a residential building in the center of the village and represent its cellar. The former location of the medieval church in the village is unknown, but geographical research in the region has shown that under the part of Schüllar, in which the location of the church is assumed, several cavities are located. This indicates a system of several crypts in which higher clergymen, for example abbots, were buried.

The place was incorporated into Bad Berleburg on January 1, 1975 on the occasion of the municipal area reform according to the provisions of the Sauerland-Paderborn Law .
