Wemlighausen is a village in the Rothaargebirge and a district of Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Geographical location

Wemlighausen is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park in the Wittgensteiner Land . It is located at the confluence of the Schwarzenau and the Odeborn . The main route is federal highway 480 , which runs through the village . Neighboring towns are Girkhausen in the north-northeast, Wunderthausen in the east-northeast, Schüllar directly in the north-west and Bad Berleburg in the south-south-west.

The first traces of settlement can be seen on the castle hill, where the remains of a ring wall system from the 7th century BC are located. It was not until 1173 that the place appeared in a document as Wanholdenchusen . From 1510 the place was desolate ; a new settlement took place from 1538. For the year 1620 a hammer mill is documented in Wemlighausen. The place then consisted of 15 houses. From 1712 ore mines were set up with the help of Waldeck experts. From 1781 the place belonged to the Schulzerei Schüllar. A change took place in 1806 to the Schulzerei Girkhausen .

Wemlighausen was incorporated into Bad Berleburg on January 1, 1975 as part of the municipal reform in accordance with the provisions of the Sauerland-Paderborn law .

Wemlighausen belongs to the parish of Bad Berleburg. The Evangelical Church was inaugurated in 1907. The church building has two entrances, one for the residents of Wemlighausen and one for those from Schüllar.
