Arfeld is a district of the city of Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Arfeld is located in the upper Eder valley , in the Wittgensteiner Land and in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . The Arfelder Bracht ( 554.7  m ) rises to the northeast and the Herzogs Eiche ( Herzogeiche ; 549.5  m ) to the southeast .

It was first in 800 on the occasion of a donation to the Lorsch Abbey with in pago Arahfelt (in Arfeldgau) in a document of the Lorsch codex mentioned one more time in the year 815. One of knights to Arfeld is detectable for the year 1232nd

In 1258 the deanery Arfeld of the Diocese of Mainz was first mentioned. In 1391 the place was under Hatzfeld administration. This situation persisted until 1495.

Around 1538 the place belonged to the Richstein family. In 1590, Richstein burned down to two houses. In 1591 the Richstein court moved to Arfeld. There is evidence of a mill in Areld for 1602. In 1731 the newly created administrative unit, the so-called Arfeld district, was called. This was expanded in 1819 to the Schultheissen district with the villages of Richstein, Sassenhausen , Weidenhausen and Stünzel . In 1845 the Arfeld Office was formed. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1887.

On August 22, 1973, a phantom fighter of the British Air Force crashed in the Stedenhof area . The two occupants died in the crash.

As part of the municipal reorganization , the former independent municipality has belonged to Bad Berleburg since January 1st, 1975 .

Attractions

One of the sights of Arfeld is the forge built in the 19th century, which has now been converted into a museum. The machines and tools are driven by a waterwheel that is fed from the neighboring Arfebach . Guided tours are offered.

The Protestant parish church , which is a listed building, is a landmark building .

Every year there is a Christmas market in town .
