Evangelical Church Arfeld

The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Arfeld , a district of the city of Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

In the Middle Ages the church was the seat of a deanery. The dean's seat was first mentioned in a document in 1258. The then dean was called Wezel and the place was called Arahafelt. The dean's office at that time was roughly congruent with today's Siegen-Wittgenstein district. The deaneries of Kesterburg, Amöneburg and Arfeld formed the archdeaconate of the provost of St. Stephan in Mainz .

architecture

The church was built at the time of Dean Wezel in the middle of the 13th century. It is a late Romanesque hall church of three by three bays and belongs to the Siegerland assembly group. The side aisles end in semicircular apses. The choir was renewed in 1719. During renovation work in 1958, early Gothic , painted decoration systems were uncovered, restored and in some cases freely supplemented. The west tower from the second half of the 13th century was renewed after fires in 1616 and 1733. The hood with lantern was probably put on in the middle of the 18th century. Inside, domed ridge vaults rest between pointed belt arches on pillars. There are cube capitals on the three front half-columns. Trapezoidal vaulted fields were drawn into the aisles. The galleries were built from 1752 to 1754, with yoke-separating walls being built in the south aisle. The flat ceiling in the chancel was drawn in after 1828. The hexagonal pulpit dates from 1760.
