Johannes von Preen
Johannes von Preen , also Johann von Preen (* early 15th century in Wittenburg ; † October 9, 1461 ) was called Johannes III. from 1454 until his death in 1461 the 23rd bishop of the diocese of Ratzeburg .
Live and act
Only after his elevation to episcopal dignity was Johannes recognized by the noble Preen family as belonging to them, whereas he had previously been considered a commoner. In April 1427 he enrolled as Johannes Preen to study at the University of Rostock.
He put his energy into various reform projects and donated a scholarship to support studying canons. The area of the Bishopric he enlarged by the purchase of the farms Rupenstorf and Röggelin and the glands lake .
In Gadebusch in 1458 he confirmed the foundation of a perpetual mass by the Lübeck priest Marquard Becker. His coat of arms can still be found in the altar cabinets made at the same time. He granted an indulgence of 40 days to those who would visit the St. Marien chapel in Wismar on their church consecration day and just as many to those who worshiped in front of the image of Mary there and sacrificed a shilling to the Ratzeburg church.
In 1458 he consecrated the monastery church of the Birgittenkloster Marienwohlde .
He was buried in Ratzeburg Cathedral , where a fragment of his tombstone has been preserved.
