The Elsoff , also known as Elsoffbach , is a 19.2 km long, northern and left tributary of the Eder in the Hochsauerlandkreis and district of Siegen-Wittgenstein in North Rhine-Westphalia and in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in Hesse .

course

source

The Elsoff rises within the Rothaargebirge in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . The source of the brook, which was initially also called Bubenkirchenbach , is located in the Hochsauerlandkreis and is located 1.8 km north-north-west of the Trambach settlement in Hallenberg on the transition area from the Wallershöhe ( 812.1  m above sea  level ) to the Hasselback ( 766.6  m ) southeast of it about 736  m altitude.

Upper course

The Elsoff flows through the forests of the Rothaargebirge, initially as Bubenkirchenbach in a south-westerly direction. It is fed, among other things, from the right-hand stream from the radium source and from the left-hand Heiligenbach. Then it reaches the Bad Berleburg district of Wunderthausen , in whose center the Schoppenwasser flows to the left , which rises east of the village.

Middle course

Then the body of water is only called Elsoff, and from there it flows mainly in a southerly direction. After flowing through Wunderthausen, it runs for almost 3.5 km on the border from Westphalia to the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

After the confluence of the Landebach on the right, the Elsoff divides a village in the middle course into a larger western part, the Bad Berleburg district of Diedenshausen in Westphalia, and a smaller eastern part, the Bromskirchen district of Seibelsbach in northern Hesse. In Diedenhausen, the Pferdsbach and the Sale flow into the right.

The Elsoff then flows through the Bad Berleburg district of Alertshausen , following the tributary of the Inselbach on the left . The Schwarzenbach on the right and the Binsenbach on the left converge there, and below the village the Brosbach and the Garsbach flow to the right. After about 14 km of flow, it runs through the Bad Berleburg district of Elsoff , where by far the largest tributary flows into the Mennerbach on the right .

Lower course and mouth

In the lower reaches the Elsoff finally crosses from Westphalia to North Hesse; in the process, she finally leaves the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. East-southeast below the Westphalian town of Beddelhausen and west above the core town of Hatzfeld in northern Hesse , the Elsoff flows from the left at an altitude of 348  m into the Fulda tributary Eder flowing there from the west .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Elsoff is 48.983  km² ; it is drained through the Eder and Fulda to the North Sea . Its tributaries include the Elsoff Oberlauf Bubenkirchbach (viewed downstream; according to the individual evidence mentioned in the column heads , unless otherwise stated):
