German basic map
Deutsche Grundkarte ( DGK ) is an official topographical map from which subsequent maps are derived on a smaller scale .
A DGK is usually available on a scale of 1: 5000 and is referred to as DGK 5. A 40 cm × 40 cm map therefore shows an area of 2 km × 2 km in nature. The DGK contains all essential topographical objects in the correct position and true to the ground plan. In addition, contour lines are shown at intervals of 0.5–5 m, depending on the relief. Land maps , other large-scale maps (measurement results, etc.) and orthophotos are used to create a DGK . In contrast to smaller-scale topographic maps, property boundaries are also shown. The Gauß-Krüger coordinate system is generally used in the DGK . The sheet is cut according to straight Gauss-Krüger coordinates. The sheet numbering results from the sheet number of the topographic map 1: 25000 and a consecutive number within the map sheet of the TK25.
The DGK is used in several variants:
Successor products of DGK 5
The continuation of DGK 5 was discontinued in most federal states with the introduction of the digital derivation of topographic maps from ATKIS data. However, it is usually replaced by other products that are derived from the official real estate cadastre information system ALKIS . In the new federal states, the topographic map 1: 10,000 (TK 10) is available instead of the DGK 5 .
