Philipp R. Hömberg

Philipp Rupert Hömberg (born June 26, 1939 in Telgte ; † October 5, 2001 in Olpe ) was a German prehistorian and monument conservator.

Life

Philipp R. Hömberg, son of the historian Albert K. Hömberg , studied prehistory, geography, English, folklore and medieval history in Freiburg im Breisgau, Toronto and Münster. He completed his studies in prehistory at the University of Münster in 1972 with a doctorate on prehistoric ramparts in Westphalia .

From March 31, 1982 until his death he was head of the Olpe branch of the LWL-Archäologie (formerly the Westphalian Museum for Archeology in Münster). Michael Baales was appointed as his successor as head of the Olpe branch of LWL archeology . He was a member of the Antiquities Commission for Westphalia and its managing director from 1975 to 1988 and from 1996 to 2001.

Hömberg's research on the prehistory and early history of Westphalia is of particular importance. The focus of his scientific work was on path research, especially in the research of sunken paths .
