The Kappel is an orographically right tributary of the Eder in the districts of Wingeshausen and Aue of the Wittgenstein city of Bad Berleburg in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein , North Rhine-Westphalia . In particular, it arises only 1.3 km above its confluence through the confluence of the Westerbach and the Bortlingsbach ; over the Westerbach it is 7.3 km long, over the Bortlingsbach it is 7.8 km.

River system

The Kappel drains southwards via a fan-shaped river system, with the two main arms collecting the shorter streams from the northwest (Westerbach) and northeast (Bortlingsbach), which together formed and cleared the Auer Kessel , the northwestern part of the Wittgenstein Chamber . The sources of the brooks are mostly in the Rüsper Rothaar , those of the Bortlingsbach and the Eberbach in the Kühhuder Rothaar and those of the Radebach on the eastern edge of the basin. Westerbach and Steinsbach, on the other hand, have their sources in the Auer Ederbergland , which the Rothaar covers to the south. Of the 27.443 km² catchment area, the Westerbach drains 13.166 km², the Bortlingsbach 11.801 km² and the named Kappel only another 2.476 km², of which the greater part is accounted for by the Steinsbach.

After stationing

In the water station, the Bortlingsbach (there: "Bortlingbach" ) is measured over the Ihringebach and its upper course is managed as the "Bockeshorntal". According to that hierarchy, the system is structured as follows:

    • (l) Kieselgründchen (428132-12; 0.80 km)
    • (l) Weißbach (428132-14; 1.83 km; 0.92 km²)
    • (l) In der Mühle (428132-2; 2.86 km; 3.01 km²)
    • (l) Gutmannssaat (428132-4; 3.35 km²; 2.64 km²)
    • (l) Rohrbach (428132-52; 2.08 km; 1.15 km²)
    • (l) "Bortlingbach" (428132-6; 5.58 km; 11.80 km²)
      • (l) "Bockeshorntal" (428132-64; 3.49 km)
