Mountain height and summit region

The height of the Hohe Hessel is sometimes only given as around 742 or 743  m , but this refers to a trigonometric point located about 70 m west-southwest of its summit ( 743.6  m ) at a height of 742.8  m . There are several wild meadows on the high elevations of the otherwise wooded mountain near the summit . Around 200 m northeast of the summit there is a transmission tower ( 739  m ) from which Radio Siegen broadcasts.

Watershed and rivers

The Rhine-Weser watershed runs along the ridge leading from the Hohen Hessel in a north-northeast direction - past Margaretenstein ( 682.9  m ) and Grummes Köpfchen - to the Härdler along the Rothaarsteig . On the south-west slope of the Wildhöfer there ( 727.9  m ), a (somewhat distant) north-north-west side knoll of the Hohen Hessel , the Wigge rises as a tributary of the Hundem ; their water reaches the Rhine through the Lenne and Ruhr . The Lange Meinscheidbach rises between Wildhöfer and Hoher Hessel and, south of the Hohen Hessel, the Dengelsiepen ( Dengessiepen ) as the left and right source brook of the Meinscheidbach , the left source brook of the Röspe . The Westerbach rises southeast of the mountain as the right source brook of the Kappel , north of the Westerbach tributary Mühlenbach ( In der Mühle ) and east of the Westerbach tributary Weißbach ; the water from Röspe and Kappel flows through the Eder and Fulda into the Weser .
