Vera Bohle

Vera Bohle (* 1969 in Recklinghausen ) is a German mine clearer in crisis areas.

Life

Vera Bohle studied theater, film and television studies, politics and geography. Then she worked as a journalist.

Based on personal impressions, including after a trip through Mozambique , she changed her job at the age of 29 and went to the Dresden explosives school to be trained in explosive ordnance disposal. She then took part in several missions in crisis areas in Africa, Asia and the Balkans. She reported on her experiences in the book My Life as a Mine Cleaner , published in 2004 .

Since 2003 Vera Bohle has devoted herself mainly to political work. She works at the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining GICHD . Bohle is the patron of the campaign "Shaping Peace - Winning the Future" of the Evangelical Mission .

Awards

  • In 2002 Vera Bohle received the Federal Cross of Merit .
  • In 2005 she was awarded the first Soroptimist Peace Prize , which is awarded to women who are particularly committed to peace.
