The Harz Kurier is a regional German daily newspaper that is distributed in the former district of Osterode am Harz and its peripheral areas in southern Lower Saxony .

history

The Jungfer Verlag from Herzberg am Harz had founded the Osteroder Rundschau in 1969 , from which the Mantel Harz Kurier emerged in 1970 , with which the Herzberger Zeitung , which had been published since 1959 , was the successor to the Anzeiger für die Flecken Herzberg and Anzeiger für die Fürstentum Grubenhagen , founded in 1848 . With the addition of the Bad Lauterberger Nachrichten in 1972 and the takeover of the Bad Sachsaer Nachrichten in 1974, the newspaper became the Kreisblatt.

In 1990 the Harz Kurier distributed the Nordhäuser newspaper in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia , but withdrew again in 1996.

In 1996 the Harz Kurier Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG was founded, operating as Harz Kurier Verlag GmbH since 2017. Since the suspension of the Osteroder Kreis-Anzeiger in 1997, the Harz Kurier has been the sole local newspaper in the distribution area. On July 1, 2007, the Braunschweig media company, which had belonged to the WAZ media group (now Funke media group ) since January 2007 , took over the newspaper. The Braunschweiger Zeitung previously owned 35% of the company shares.

The Harz Kurier Verlagsgesellschaft also distributes the advertising papers Echo zum Sonntag and Harzer Wochenspiegel , which appear weekly and are distributed free of charge to households.

In 2008 the printing of the newspaper was relocated to Braunschweig .

In Gipsmühlenweg in Osterode am Harz, the Harz Kurier runs its office with a local editorial office and a service center with a box office. The service center on Kornmarkt in the city center was given up in August 2019.
