geography

location

The Bollerberg is part of the eastern roof of the Rothaargebirge in the eastern part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park in the Hesborn Forest. Its summit rises about 1.5 km northwest of Hesborn (to Hallenberg ), 4.25 km east-northeast is Medelon (to Medebach ), 3.5 km to the west of Züschen and 3 km to the south of Liesen (to Hallenberg). Its northern extension is the Teukelberg ( 749.2  m ), and about 2.4 km (depending on the beeline ) northwest of the Bollberg summit is the Hohe Seite ( 752.5  m ).

Natural allocation

The Bollerberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) and in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) to the subunit Hohe Seite (333.7). Its eastern flank falls into the natural area Hallenberger Hügelland (332.41), which belongs to the subunit Medebacher Bucht (332.4) in the main unit Ostsauerland Gebirgsrand (332) .

Flowing waters

The Nuhne tributary Olfe (Ölfe) rises around 700 m south-southeast of the Bollerberg summit , 550 m (depending as the crow flies) east-northeast the small Ölfe tributary Talwasser . The Nuhne tributary Liese flows southwest past the mountain and rises a few kilometers further northwest on the Lagerstein mountain ( 732.1  m ).

Protected areas

There are four nature reserves around the Bollerberg : to the north the NSG Waldreservat Glindfeld (LP Medebach) ( CDDA -No. 319281; 21.53  km² ; designated 2002), to the east the NSG Im Tal (CDDA-Nr. 329462; 2001; 26  ha ), to the south the Hilmesberg NSG (CDDA no. 329434; 2001; 48 ha) and to the west the Liesetal NSG (CDDA no. 164454; 1990; 50 ha). The mountain is located in the Hallenberger Waldlandschaft protected landscape area (CDDA no. 345001; 2004; 23.25 km²), with the LSG grassland west of Hesborn (landscape type C) (CDDA no. 344979; 2004; 28 ha) adjoining it to the southeast . It also contains parts of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (VSG no. 4717-401; 13.872 km²). To the west and south of the mountain is the fauna-flora-habitat area Liesetal-Hilmesberg (FFH no. 4817-305; 1 km²).

Towers

Bollerbergturm

In 1936, a 15 m high wooden observation tower was built on the summit region of the Bollerberg , which existed until 1945. Today's Bollerbergturm was built in 1976/1977. He is 15 m high. From the top of its five viewing platforms , to which 84 steps lead, there is a wide panoramic view of most of the highest mountains in the Rothaargebirge in particular , of the Medebacher Bay and the landscapes behind it. In the southwest which dominates massif of Ziegenhelle with the 816 m high and no 7 km away Ziegenhelle all dehinter lying mountains; further north, many more of the highest mountains in the Rothaargebirge can be seen, with the Hunau being largely hidden and only partially visible in notches. The Ramsbecker Heights are also delivered, except for the Wiedegge . The high places Langewiese and Neuastenberg and the Kahle Asten are very clearly recognizable, above and to the right of Züschen . From the Langenberg natural area, at least the highest peaks protrude over the neighboring mountains of the Hohe Seite , whereby Clemensbereg and Kahle Pön are clearly visible.

To the north-northeast the horizon is limited by the Vorderupländer ridge with the 635 m high Widdehagen ; Only when visibility is extremely good (92 km) is the Köterberg visible in the notch to the left of Widdehagen . From the northeast, with normal visibility, the view ends in the Waldecker Wald , unspectacular from a distance ; However, since this is not very high, when visibility is very good (at least 80 km), parts of the Reinhardswald appear behind it , and when visibility is extremely good (90–100 km), parts of the Solling also appear . In the middle distance, immediately to the left of the transmitting antenna, is the 560 m high Eisenberg near Korbach.

To the right of the Eisenberg, when visibility is reasonably good (50 km), the most striking mountain ranges of the Habichtswälder Uplands can be seen. To be able to see the Brocken (1141 m) in the Harz Mountains behind it, a visibility of 156 km would be required, which makes its visibility a purely academic note. More realistic would be the hope of being able to see the Hohe Meißner (753 m) 87 km away in inversion weather conditions.

From the east and to the right of the Meißner, the Kellerwald begins , which is easily recognizable even when the visibility is moderate (25–37 km) and obstructs the mountain ranges behind it. The Hohe Lohr (657 m) located directly on the western flank of the ridge is particularly striking , while from the desert garden (675 m) only the summit region is uncovered.

The Kellerwald expires in the east-southeast and in the Burgwald the horizon ends again in a red sandstone landscape that is unspectacular from a distance when visibility is normal. When visibility is good (72 km), the Knüll southern foothills of Rimberg (592 m) appear right next to the Kellerwald . For the visibility of the Wasserkuppe and other mountains of the Hohe Rhön , however, a distance of around 120 km would be required. Further to the right, in the south-southeast, you can see Vogelsberg from a range of over 80 km .

From the south there are already more striking mountains in the middle horizon, of which the Rimberg (498 m) and the Sackpfeife (673.5 m) stand out as well as, with slightly better visibility (57 km), the likewise 498 m high, singular Dünsberg between the two. The Great Feldberg and other mountains of the Taunus main ridge only join in with extremely good visibility (a good 100 km) .

From the bagpipe, the horizon belongs to the Rothaargebirge again, which then rises significantly on the Ziegenhelle massif.

In the following sections you will find a more detailed listing, arranged according to landscape sections and starting in the south. In brackets are the height, distance and the natural area to which the mountain is assigned.

Telecommunications tower

A few meters below and to the east of the observation tower is a reinforced concrete telecommunications tower from which Eins Live , Radio Sauerland , WDR 4 and WDR 5 are broadcast.

Traffic and walking

View from the east side of Hilmesberg

A small asphalt road leads to the Bollerbergturm, which begins in Hesborn as Buchhagenweg and branches off from Am Rain . On this road there are several viewpoints to the Medebacher Bay, which can be better seen from lower heights, one of them on the eastern flank of the Hilmesberg at about 575 m. A little further on this road, on the saddle between Hilmes- and Bollerberg (at 590.5 m) and northwest of Hesborn, is the “Hohe Schlade” car park for hikers . From here the road can only be used during the day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The  A2 hiking trail also begins here . The hiking trails leading to the summit run steeply uphill through the forest landscape.

The Olfe spring is only 300 m from the car park and can be reached from here via hiking trails. On the other hand, it is also directly accessible from Hesborn ( Kreuzbergstrasse and a lane-like extension).
