Ottrauer Bergland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ottrauer Bergland is a natural area located south of the Knüll and northeast of the Vogelsberg (355.0) in the Fulda-Haune-Tafelland (main unit 355) in East Hesse , Germany . It is named after the place Ottrau .

In particular, the north of the Ottrauer Bergland around the 592 m high Rimberg is commonly assigned to the Knüll, to which there is no sharp border north of this mountain. In contrast to the Knüll, however, the Ottrauer Bergland lies mainly on red sandstone , in which basalt is only woven in on singularities like islands .

Location and limits

The Ottrauer Bergland lies at the junction of the three districts of Schwalm-Eder (northwest), Hersfeld-Rotenburg and the Vogelsbergkreis in the extreme south.

The sharp border to the Upper Hessian Threshold (main unit 346) to the west is the Schwalm (343.0) on the river of the same name as part of the West Hessian Valley (343).

In the western north is the (still this side) Grenff border river to the Knüll (356), in the eastern north the border to this low mountain range runs south of the (thus on the other side) upper course of the assembly hall between Oberaula and Gersdorf .

In the further course from Frielingen , like Gersdorf, a district of Kirchheim , the auditorium is finally the border to the Kirchheimer Bergland (355.4), which adjoins to the east .

In the extreme east, the Kämmerzell-Asbacher Fulda valley (355.20) on both sides of the Fulda is finally a sharp border with the Rombach plateau (355.30), while in the southeast the Jossa, which is extended around its tributary Schwarza , represents the border with the Schlitzer Land (355.1).

In the southwest, the Großenlüder-Lauterbacher Graben , which follows the brook from Wallenrod to shortly after its confluence with the Schwalm, separates the natural area from the Lower Vogelsberg .

Other properties

The densely forested Ottrauer Bergland lies on the watershed between Schwalm (or Eder ) and Mittlerer Fulda between Knüll and Vogelsberg and covers an area of 252.34 km². Most of this area clearly covers the crumple. The southwest around the Auerberg, however, is more related to the Vogelsberg. It is gently separated from the northern part by an unwooded valley depression that runs in the west, i.e. on the Schwalm side, along the lower reaches of the Berf , in the east, i.e. on the Fulda side, along the Bieben up to its confluence with the Jossa .

mountains

  • Rimberg (592 m, transmitter mast and motorway service station; north)
  • Hirschberg (506 m, Herzberg Castle , center)
  • Auerberg (501 m; southwest part)
  • Bechtelsberg (472 m; western center)
  • Homberg (450 m; extreme west of the southwest part)
  • Gonzenburg (372 m; middle of the extreme west)
  • Hattenberg (362 m, extreme east)
  • Burgküppel (300.1 m; north of the extreme west)

Rivers

In the following the rivers are arranged from north to south, upstream the main rivers Schwalm and Fulda ;
Border rivers, as well as the river lengths, in brackets:

  • (Fulda (left))
    • ( Aula (22.6 km) - only right tributaries)
      • Ibra (9.7 km)
      • Hattenbach (7.6 km)
    • ( Jossa (22.9 km) - only left tributaries)
      • ( Schwarza ) (8.8 km)
      • Bieben (5.4 km)
      • Breitenbach (7.4 km)

The auditorium arises from the Knüll , the Lüder from the Schlitzer Land . A surprising number of the other rivers, including the most important ones (Grenff, Berf, Ibra, Hattenbach and Breitenbach), have their source in the area around the Rimberg . Eifa and Schwarza swell in the south-western sub-center around the Auerberg .
