The brook of Wallenrod (locally also called Musel ) is an approximately 8.5 km long, south-eastern or orographically right-hand tributary of the Schwalm in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse ( Germany ).

Course and catchment area

The brook of Wallenrod has its source in the northern part of the Vogelsberg low mountain range . Its source is about 2 km southwest of the village of Wallenrod , a district of Lauterbach , between southern Thorkuppe ( 476.6  m ) and northeastern Pfingstberg ( 402.3  m ) at around 405  m above sea level. NHN .

At first the brook of Wallenrod flows in a right curve around the Pfingstberg to and through Wallenrod; there it does not run above ground, but was channeled to prevent flooding. It then flows in the municipality of Schwalmtal approximately in a north direction parallel to the Vogelsbergbahn, which has been crossed several times, through Hergersdorf and Brauerschwend .

In Brauerschwend, the brook from Wallenrod bends roughly to the west, just below it, directly east of the state road  3162 ( Unter-Sorg - Renzendorf ) at 299  m above sea level, into the Eder tributary Schwalm, which flows roughly from the south .

The catchment area of the Wallenrod brook is 26.384 km².

Curiosities about the brook of Wallenrod

The source of the Wallenrod brook , located southwest of Wallenrod, is sometimes referred to as the Schwalm source, although it flows away from the Schwalm source south-southwest of Storndorf . The stream of Wallenrod , however, with its 8.5 km stretch of flow, is significantly shorter than the upstream section of the Schwalm near the source, which is 12.2 km long to the confluence with the "Bach von Wallenrod".
