history
The first known written evidence dates from the year 1238. The spelling of the place name was very different, as there was no fixed spelling at that time. So one wrote 1238 Stozrendorff or Sozrendorff . In 1293 it was called Storrendorff and in the 14th century Stormendorf and Sturmdorff . In the next century, the form Storindorff was used more and more, and from 1500 the term Storndorff was mostly used.
In the Middle Ages, the rulers of Storndorf were the landgraves of Hesse . Many rights over the place were given as fiefdoms to the "von Storndorf family". In 1600 a Storndorfer line was so heavily indebted that half of Storndorf (“half of the village of Storndorf and half of the goods outside the Storndorf court”) fell back to the landgraves. On August 9, 1634, Landgrave Georg II of Hesse issued his councilor Ludwig von Seebach a letter of fief to the half of Storndorf that had fallen back as compensation for missing salary payments. When the von Storndorf family died out, there was a Hessian and a Seebach half at Storndorf in 1713.
The Protestant church was built in 1753 . Until about the end of the 1960s, a number of residents earned extra income as a broom-maker .
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Storndorf in 1830:
"Storndorf (L. Bez. Alsfeld) evangel. Branch village; is located in the Vogelsberg, 2 1 / 2 hrs from Alsfeld, such as at the Schwalm, the 1 / 2 St. rises above the location, in a Wiesenthale. The place has 145 houses and 863 inhabitants, who are Protestant besides 1 Catholics and 139 Jews, as well as 1 old castle belonging to Herr von Seebach, 1 synagogue, 3 mills and 2 farms, one of which is state property, the other is owned by the Belonged to Herr von Seebach, and in 1823 it was sold to several heirs and owns. The first farm consists of a two-story house, the necessary economic buildings, a distillery, a brewery and several acres of land, and this farm is connected with brewing and distilling justice, as well as the innkeeping. There are many linen weavers among the inhabitants. Several of the inhabitants also feed on the domestic iron with earthen and wooden dishes. A spirit of wine is prepared here, which is used to make fine liqueurs and a fragrant water that is sold under the name Sterndorfer Wasser. The place was shared with the noble vassals Herr von Seebach, in some cases, but who have recently ceded their rights to the state. "
From the 17th century until 1939 Storndorf had a Jewish community. They had a synagogue , a school, a ritual bath ( mikveh ) and their own Jewish cemetery . The community belonged to the Orthodox Provincial Rabbinate of Upper Hesse with its seat in Giessen .
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Storndorf has formed the municipality of Schwalmtal since December 31, 1971, together with eight other previously independent localities.

Courts since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords and thus the Ulrichstein office for Storndorf was responsible for the Hessian part and the Storndorf court for the Seebach part. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. "Alsfeld Regional Court" was therefore the name of the court of first instance in Alsfeld from 1821 to 1879, today's district court, which was responsible for Storndorf. The von Seebach family ceded their rights to the state at the Storndorf court in 1821.
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand-ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to the Alsfeld district court and the district was assigned to the district of the regional court Pouring . In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Regional Court of Giessen, the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
