Schlitzer Land

The Schlitzer Land is a natural area located west of the Fulda and northeast of the Vogelsberg (355.1) in the Fulda-Haune-Tafelland (main unit 355) in East Hesse , Germany . It is named after the place Schlitz in the mouth of the river of the same name .

Apart from a few basalt islands around singularities, the Schlitzer Land lies on red sandstone .

Location and limits

The Schlitzer Land is mainly in the Vogelsbergkreis , only the extreme north is in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district and the south in the Fulda district .

In the extreme east, the Kämmerzell-Asbacher Fulda valley (355.20) is a sharp border on both sides of the Fulda with the Rombach plateau (355.30), while in the south-west of the Großenlüder-Lauterbacher Graben along the Lauter, along with Brenderwasser and Maar, the border to the Lower Vogelsberg (main unit 350) forms.

In the northwest, the Jossa, which is extended around its tributary Schwarza , forms the border with the Ottrauer Bergland (355.0).

Other properties

The Schlitzer Land is densely forested and has an area of ​​140.88 km². The forest is divided into two by the course of the mouth of the slot into the larger part in the north, west and center and the smaller southeast part.

Rivers

The Jossa and some of its tributaries, z. B. the 4.9 km long Eschelbach . The Schwarza (8.8 km), also a left tributary of the Jossa, rises at the junction of Schlitzer Land, Ottrauer Bergland and the Großenlüder-Lauterbacher Graben in the far west.

From the left to the Schlitz coming from the Vogelsberg (13.3 km or, with a source river, 43.3 km) flows u. a. the Sengelbach (5.9 km), north of it the Wiesbach (6.8 km) flows directly into the Fulda .
